About the Club
1. FC Köln was formed in February 1948 through the merger of Kölner Ballspiel-Club 01 and SpVgg Sülz 07, and is one of the best supported clubs in western Germany. Based in Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, it plays in red and white at the RheinEnergieStadion in the Müngersdorf district and is nicknamed Die Geissböcke, the billy goats, after the live goat that serves as club mascot.

Köln won the German championship in 1962 and then the inaugural Bundesliga title in 1963-64, adding a third in 1977-78 when it completed a league and cup double. Four DFB-Pokal victories and a run to the 1986 UEFA Cup final complete its major honours. The modern era has been defined by repeated promotion and relegation between the Bundesliga and the second tier; the club returned to the top flight for 2025-26 and finished 14th.

Transfer Notes: Signed from 1. FC Koln on 7 July 2026 for EUR 17,000,000, Benfica triggering his release clause; contract to 2031 with a EUR 60,000,000 release clause of his own.
