The Cork-born forward arrived at the Caixa Futebol Campus in August 2024, aged 16, after a record-breaking start to his career in Ireland.

At Cork City he became the club's youngest ever player when he debuted against Bohemians in November 2023 at 15 years and 230 days, and later their youngest ever goalscorer, netting against Wexford at 16 years and 14 days. At Benfica he progressed through the academy into the Under-23 side.

Of Nigerian-Irish heritage, Umeh represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level before making his senior debut in May 2026 against Qatar, starting for the first time days later against Canada. His brother Franco is also a professional footballer.
