About the Club
Heart of Midlothian was founded in Edinburgh in 1874 by members of the Heart of Midlothian Quadrille Assembly, a dancing club whose members had taken to playing football on the Meadows; the name comes from the old Tolbooth prison on the Royal Mile. Founder members of the Scottish Football League in 1890, they have won four league championships, eight Scottish Cups and four League Cups. Derek McInnes took over in May 2025 and in 2025/26 led Hearts to second in the Premiership, their best finish since the 1959/60 title, going into the final day level on points with Celtic. That place took them into Champions League qualifying, where Sturm Graz beat them 6-0 on aggregate and dropped them into the Europa League third qualifying round.
