İstanbul Başakşehir were founded in 1990 as the municipal club İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor and took their present name and identity in 2014, moving to the new Fatih Terim Stadium in the Başakşehir district.
The club won the Süper Lig in 2020, its only championship, breaking the monopoly of the three big Istanbul clubs, and has reached the Europa League knockout rounds. It plays in orange and navy.
