Burnley Football Club was founded in 1882 in the Lancashire mill town of the same name and has played at Turf Moor since 1883, one of the longest continuous associations between an English club and its ground. Burnley was among the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888.

The club won the English first-division championship in 1920-21, when it also set a then-record 30-match unbeaten league run, and again in 1959-60 under Harry Potts, a remarkable feat for a club of its size. The FA Cup was lifted in 1914. More recently Burnley has moved between the top two divisions, winning the Championship in 2015-16 and 2022-23.

After promotion in 2024-25 the club was relegated from the Premier League at the end of 2025-26 and returns to the EFL Championship.
