Futebol Clube do Porto was founded on 28 September 1893 in Porto and is one of the three Portuguese clubs never to have been relegated from the top flight. Since 2003 it has played at the Estádio do Dragão, which seats around 50,000 spectators and replaced the long-serving Estádio das Antas.

Porto has won 31 Primeira Liga titles and 20 Taça de Portugal trophies, including a run of five consecutive championships between 1994-95 and 1998-99 and unbeaten league campaigns in 2010-11 and 2012-13. It is by some distance Portugal's most successful club in Europe, winning the European Cup in 1987 under Artur Jorge and the Champions League in 2004 under José Mourinho, along with the UEFA Cup in 2003, the Europa League in 2011, two Intercontinental Cups and the 1987 European Super Cup.

The club competes in the Primeira Liga and is nicknamed the Dragons after the crest.
